We are excited to introduce Inventory History on Octopart.com, a new feature designed to help you view part-level stock trends over time. As the electronics industry continues to experience supply chain disruptions, we know how critical it is to not only locate parts, but to also get an idea of the part’s historical availability and make possible projections on its future availability.

Inventory history is now available on all Octopart part detail pages (PDPs). Powered by Nexar Spectra, Inventory History is able to display up to one year of part-level data, with the option to toggle between a 3 month or 12 month window, as seen above. Historical data includes stock for franchised distributors only and every effort has been made to exclude duplicate or anomalous data. While we strive to deliver data as timely as possible, it’s important to note that processing delays may cause data to be 2 to 3 days behind.

To view inventory history you can scroll down on any PDP or click the navigation bar which will bring you down to the Inventory History section of the page. Additionally, you’ll find a new section with thumbnail images of the part and of a graph that, when clicked, will display inventory history. The inventory history thumbnail image will give a quick snapshot of whether the available inventory has decreased, increased, remained the same, or if there is no data available.

The historical graph’s y-axis represents the number of parts in stock and the x-axis represents the time passed in month and year format (ie. Sept. 2020, June 2021.) As seen above you can hover your mouse over parts of the graph to view specific information for a specific time period. If there is no data for a part, the inventory history section of the PDP will be hidden. Also, you don't need to be signed into your account to view Inventory History. One other significant thing to note: the Spectra data powering Inventory History is global, not regional. When viewing current inventory available for your region, the Inventory History chart may display values higher than the inventory currently available to you.

The fact is, granular part-level data empowers users and supports data needs across the entire electronics industry. This enables smarter decision making when recommending, securing and purchasing components. To check out inventory history, start your part search today!
