The Why Behind WE

Data shows that 8% percent of women in the U.S. are in C-Suite roles, according to Catalyst, CEO Magazine, National Center for Educational Statistics, Forbes, and Fortune Magazine. Our industry data collection at Women in Electronics (WE) aligns closely with that statistic. We know from these same sources that 59% of all graduates are women. It is the extensive gap between the 59% and the 8% that is the why behind WE.

Technological innovation starts right here in this industry, but we still have a long way to go with advancing cultural innovation. There is no blame game – most of the barriers we face are systemic. Driven by the values of honor, authenticity, courage, and commitment, Women in Electronics is committed to uniting with our male counterparts to increase gender parity in the electronics industry.

Not all women’s groups are made equal! Women in Electronics is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to expanding the opportunities for women in the electronics industry. WE is inclusive of men and encourages their participation in our events and thought leadership discussions. WE accomplishes our mission through four main goals: Empower members through quarterly virtual round table discussions, annual conferences, and special events; Develop members professionally through our monthly leadership development program and personally with our Life Balance Series; Advocate for members through our flagship industry-wide, global Mentorship Program and Career Corner; and Celebrate members and supporting industry organizations through email and social outreach.

Our give-back to the industry is in the data. According to Cloverpop and Forbes, the higher a company’s gender composition, the better it performs in average relative returns. Companies whose top management is at least half female see returns on equity that are 19% higher than average. Cloverpop and Forbes also conducted a study that showed the more levels of diversity, the better the decision making, showing that decisions were made 2x faster with half the meetings and executed 30% better results. Bain and Company research showed that decision making effectiveness is 95% correlated with financial profits.

At WE, everyone is equal – we leave our titles at the door. No matter the position or what aspect of the channel – distributor, manufacturer, contract manufacturer, end user, or manufacturers rep, you have a place to call home in the WE community. The feedback we have heard clearly from our members is a sense of belonging and connection has been a game-changer in their careers. WE seeks to form paths that weren’t there prior and remove personal and professional barriers. Progressive change can be realized with a spirit of collaboration, grace, and patience. WE welcomes YOU to join us as we advance our mission and leave a lasting legacy in the electronics industry.
